Xiaomi Mi MIX Might be the Future of Smartphones

The world’s 4th largest smartphone maker, Xiaomi is hoping to shape our vision of the future with its new Mi MIX smartphone which is the first handset to ever get a bezel-less display. Made out of ceramics, including back panel, the frame and buttons, the Mi MIX has a unibody construction and comes in black only. The smartphone is also scratch resistant and has been awarded 8.5 points on Mohs scale of hardness – iPhone 7 only rates as a 6.

Designed by Philippe Starck, Mi MIX features a staggering 6.4-inch IPS LCD edgeless display with 2040 x 1080 FHD resolution and 362 PPI pixel density. Furthermore, Mi MIX boasts a 1300:1 contrast ratio and an even more impressive screen-to-body ratio of 91.3% (!!).

The smartphone has been outfitted with a 16 MP main camera with dual-LED flash and a f/2.0 aperture. The Mi MIX is able to record 4K/1080p/720p at 30 fps and roll in slow-motion at 120 fps. It also features autofocus phase detection, facial recognition, and panorama mode. Additionally, the 5 MP front camera also captures 1080p video.

The Mi MIX is powered by the latest generation of Qualcomm processors — quad-core Snapdragon 821 at 2.35 GHz coupled with Adreno 530 graphics. On the storage front, Xiaomi offers two configurations: 128 GB + 4 GB RAM, and an Exclusive Edition with 256 GB + 6 GB RAM. While the Exclusive model will have the same tech features as its counterpart, aside from the memory, its rear camera and fingertip sensor are rimmed with 18K gold.

The phone boasts a 4400 mAh non-removable battery, backed up with fast-charging technology that allows charging the phone to its full capacity in less than an hour; the phone can work 256 hours in sleep mode and 13 hours playing games.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX will be available in China on November 4 and will come in the two aforementioned models, priced at around $510 USD and $590 USD, respectively.

The brand also recently introduced the Mi Note 2 which is like Samsung’s but without the explosions.
