Samsung Galaxy S8's firmware said to already be in production

The next Galaxy S phone keeps getting closer to reality. According to a new report, Samsung has already started work on the firmware of the Galaxy S8.

Samsung's been in the spotlight for the past few weeks for its Note 7 debacle as well as other unfortunate events. If the company wants to recover from its losses, it will have to wow consumers with its next flagship phone, the Galaxy S8.

Galaxy S8 software is already in production, Samsung news site SamMobile reported Friday, citing unnamed sources. The phone's lower level software is being developed for use in many countries, including China, South Korea, the UK, the US, Italy, Germany, France and Poland, with more countries to come in the future, SamMobile said.

Still, those hoping for an early Galaxy S8 release should manage their expectations. SamMobile notes that it was around this time last year when the Galaxy S7 firmware was in production, and the S7 was announced in February at this year's Mobile World Congress. Samsung is expected to announce the next Galaxy S phone during the 2017 MWC.

The rumors of what the Galaxy S8 will be like are already beginning to stack up. There will reportedly be two Galaxy S8's with curved displays, a full-screen display with no physical home button, and Viv's AI assistant integrated.

Samsung did not immediately respond to CNET's request for comment.
