OnePlus has been quite a popular manufacturer for a powerful unlocked Android smartphone at an affordable price. The OnePlus 3 was the company’s 2016 flagship and received very positive reviews for its top specs, competitive camera experience, 6GB of RAM, and all for $399.
Now it appears that OnePlus is not slowing down as rumors are coming out for a new and slightly upgraded version of the OnePlus 3: the OnePlus 3T.
While OnePlus in the past has stuck to releasing one smartphone per year, there have been a lot of whispers that a new device would come out before the end of the year that would feature a slight bump up in specs from the current flagship, the OnePlus 3. This was all-but-confirmed even more as one of the designers at OnePlus was spotted posting on the Chinese social site Weibo using a device called the OnePlus 3T.
Now there already had been a device with the model number A3010 that was certified in China and it was assumed that device would be this OnePlus smartphone in question. Until now, however, there was not much else to go by.
This probably accidental posting on Weibo from the OnePlus designer certainly strengthens the rumors. If all holds true, the OnePlus 3T is expected to come with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. The OnePlus 3 with the Snapdragon 820 already offered a solid experience in terms of performance, and while the Snapdragon 821 is not a huge boost, it does offer improved processing efficiency and power consumption. Android 7.0 Nougat is also rumored to come with the OnePlus 3T in the form of the company’s Oxygen OS.
That’s really all that is known at this time, but with the end of 2016 quickly approaching it shouldn’t be much longer before more information is known or this rumored phone is officially released. Price is also unknown, although with OnePlus always offering their smartphones with low costs, there shouldn’t be any surprises there. We will be on the lookout for any more information that may come out about this rumored OnePlus 3T.
Will the spec bumps be enough to sway new customers and differentiate it enough from the OnePlus 3? How will this translate going into 2017 with the plans OnePlus may have for their next flagship? Only time will tell.
