The Galaxy J5 is the next Samsung phone to explode, woman says

Samsung's exploding phone problem is far from over. A woman's Samsung Galaxy J5 reportedly caught fire and exploded in Pau, France this past weekend.

This is the first reported case of a Galaxy J5 self-combusting in a string of explosions that have plagued the company for months.

After completely stopping sales of Galaxy Note 7 devices when batteries caught fire, and even recalling Samsung washing machines due to injury risk, Samsung has some serious work to do to reassure consumers about the safety of its products.

It has yet to be determined if the Galaxy J5 explosion is a widespread issue or limited to a single incident, or whether the explosion was attributable a battery issue like that of the Note 7.

Lamya Bouyirdane, the owner of the affected Galaxy J5, told the Associated Press that she noticed the phone was hot to touch and had expanded with smoke pouring out. She threw the phone on the ground and it caught fire, with the back of the device blowing right off.

Bouyirdane claimed to have purchased the device off the internet this past June. She also stated she was planning to sue Samsung. She said her son was holding the device moments before it exploded.

A Samsung spokesperson told CNET: "We are unable to comment on this specific incident until we obtain and thoroughly examine the device. Customer safety remains our highest priority and we want to work with any customer who has experienced an issue with a Samsung product in order to investigate the matter and support them. The issues with the Galaxy Note7 are isolated to only that model."
